Despite its forced relegation, the iconic soccer club TSV 1860 Munich has a large fan base, which is now served by a new fan shop at Munich Airport. The fact that the “Sechzger” fan shop in Terminal 2 was able to open on time and fully operational is also thanks to the LED wall specialists at Concept International. Together with our partner Leyard Europe, we implemented a high-quality LED display solution in just four days that meets the specific requirements of an airport environment.
Concept International was contacted five days before the opening, scheduled for June 6, with an urgent request: to procure and install a 136-inch LED wall that had airport-approved electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) certification, thereby guaranteeing that it would not interfere with any radio signals. The airport’s measurement officer had not approved the original, newly installed video wall, so a replacement had to be procured and installed immediately.
Key to success: local manufacturing capacity in Europe
The project required a high-quality LED display solution that offered impact, reliability, and flexibility while meeting an extremely tight installation schedule. The general contractor turned to Concept International with this urgent request, and Concept brought its long-standing partner, Leyard Europe, onto the team. A key factor in the project’s success was Leyard Europe’s local manufacturing capacity. Leyard Europe manufactures in Prešov, Slovakia, which enabled the team to respond quickly and meet the tight delivery schedule: The order was received on Tuesday; production and factory acceptance testing were completed on Wednesday; on Thursday, the wall was transported from Slovakia to Munich and technicians were flown in; by Friday evening, the installation was complete and approved by the airport’s metrology officer. The grand opening was celebrated on Saturday—featuring the Leyard VHC Series LED video wall, configured as a 5×5 cabinet system with a pixel pitch of 1.5 millimeters.
Reliable long-term operation without interference with radio communications
With HDR-capable performance, a wide color gamut, and high grayscale depth, Leyard’s VHC series delivers detailed, vibrant images that capture attention in retail and public spaces. The display features a lightweight die-cast aluminum housing and allows for full front-access maintenance. This simplifies installation and ongoing maintenance while offering a robust, industrial-grade design. With a lifespan of up to 100,000 hours, the LED wall is designed for reliable operation in demanding environments.
Susanne Martini, Business Development Manager at Concept International, coordinated the project within just under a week. Her summary: “This project demonstrated what is possible when experienced partners work closely together. Thanks to the combination of Leyard’s production capabilities in Europe and efficient collaboration, we were able to deliver a high-quality solution within an extremely tight timeframe. We practically took the job on the fly and turned it into a success right away.”
