The Giada F108D impresses with its handy booksize size and the latest processor technology +++ Up to three 4K displays for large-format LEDs, for example in shops and restaurants +++ Fanless version for museums or dusty environments

Munich, 22 November 2023 – With the F108D, Giada is not only launching a powerful but also cost-effective digital signage player onto the market. The handy booksize PC impresses with an Atom processor “Alder Lake-N” from Intel, which can even compete with its big brother in the i-Core version. It also powers one more screen than its direct predecessor: three 4K displays at the same time are no problem. Also worth noting is the frequently requested second LAN connection that Giada now has on board: this means the player can also operate in a second backup network or as a gateway between networks. The compact digital signage player is particularly suitable for installations in restaurants, chain shops or museums, but industry also benefits from the fanless and therefore dust-resistant design of the Giada F108D. The player is now available from value-added distributor Concept International.

Under the bonnet, the F108D has an Intel Atom processor from the “Alder Lake N” series, equipped with the latest 10nm chip technology for even better efficiency. This ensures a significant increase in performance compared to its direct predecessor – and at a lower price. This CPU is comparable with the i3 variant of the previous generation from Intel. Despite the higher performance, the power range is again between 6 (fanless) and 15 (with fan) watts and is therefore extremely energy-efficient.

An 11th generation UHD graphics chip based on i-Core technology ensures that the power is also transferred to the road or monitors, which does not need to hide behind its big brother i3 and has almost twice the performance of its predecessor. Two HDMI and one DP connection enable the simultaneous use of three monitors in 4K/UHD at flicker-free 60 Hz. A gift for operators of digital signage terminals in hotels, chain shops or kiosks, for example: one monitor displays the drinks menu, the second the menu of the day and the third shows a video of the week’s specials.

The F108D disappears inconspicuously and, as it is fanless, also quietly in the stand, behind wall panels or under ceiling panels. A metal housing not only makes the player very robust, but also ensures optimum heat dissipation. The F108D is particularly tough in places where it gets dirty or dusty, such as outside railway stations or in industrial areas where dust and fluff can accumulate, often causing fans to die. Thanks to its metal casing and fanless design, this is no problem for the Giada player. Its slim exterior is no frills, measuring just 189.6 x 148.3 x 26 mm, making it the size of a standard paperback book (hence the name Booksize). It couldn’t be more practical!

One player – many possibilities

In contrast to the previous model, the RAM can be selected individually according to performance requirements. There are 4, 8 or 16 GB DDR4 RAM available – more flexibility for the most diverse application scenarios. Users can also choose between Windows versions 10, 11 or the IoT Enterprise version specially developed for the industrial sector as well as Linux Ubuntu 18.04 for the operating system.

In addition to two HDMI and one DP port, the DS player offers six USB slots (2 USB 3.2 Gen2 and 4 x USB 2.0), two Ethernet RJ45 and two serial COM ports. The latter can be used, for example, to control the connected display and query operating statuses. The second LAN connection was introduced at the request of many customers. It is often needed, for example, when a second application – in addition to the video player software – needs to access a large amount of data such as a webcam live stream. With high data throughput, the separate connection relieves the main channel and the content continues to be displayed without delay. The performance remains fast and smooth. Both connections are physically completely separated. An audio input and output for microphone and speakers is also available.

Giada’s JAHC technology ensures 24/7 availability. This hardware component also includes the so-called “watchdog”, which automatically reboots the player if, for example, the software hangs. It also enables the PC to be booted up and shut down at different times of the day and night using RTC (Real-Time Clock).

“The F108D is at the top of the range of affordable yet powerful digital signage players – with a new processor and more connections. There is currently no better value for money in the DS sector,” says Mike Finckh, founder and managing director of Concept International.
